Workshop#1: 5G Horizontal Enablers and Vertical Demonstrators

26th May, Thursday at 9:00 CEST. Virtual Seminar

Objective

The objective of this session is to disseminate results in the field of 5G infrastructures and technologies, attracting interest in the implemented open experimentation infrastructure. The presentation covers the technical results of the Open-VERSO project and demonstrates them as part of different applications tested on the infrastructure.

Addressed to

Mainly to those people from research centers, academia and industrial companies with interests in 5G technologies and the way they are applied in demonstrators running on top of testbeds. The orientation will be general and pedagogical with the focus on how specific technologies respond to real needs. It is not necessary to have deep technical knowledge on the part of the attendees.

Speakers

Mikel Zorrilla, Director of Digital Media & Communications of Vicomtech

Telecommunications Engineer from Mondragon Unibertsitea in 2007, he holds an advanced degree in Computer Science (UPV-EHU University of the Basque Country) and a PhD entitled “Interoperable Technologies for Multi-device Media Services” (UPV-EHU University of the Basque Country). He is the director of the Digital Media & Communications department at Vicomtech and has led and participated in several national and international research projects. His main experience focuses on interactive media technologies, media standards, video workflow management and 5G technologies.

Ángel Martín, Senior Researcher in Vicomtech

He received his engineering degree in 2003 from the University Carlos III of Madrid, Spain and the PhD in 5G domain in 2018 from UPV. His research interests are in the areas of video streaming and QoE in 5G networks. He has been involved in different 5GPPP projects such as CogNet, 5GMOBIX, 5GMETA, European projects. He is leading the Open-VERSO project in the CDTI’s Red Cervera funding programme.

Pablo Losada, Technical Manager of Electronics in Advanced Communications Department in Gradiant

Telecommunications Engineer with a specialization in Electronics from the University of Vigo (2011). His research interests are in the areas of development and implementation of very high-speed signal processing algorithms on FPGAs; embedded systems and SoC platforms; customized hardware for RF signals; and mono and multi-carrier communications for broadcast systems. Currently his work focuses on the analysis and development of self-interference cancellation techniques for systems with Full-Duplex in-band characteristics. He is leading the research and development of horizontal enablers in Open-VERSO project.

Carolina Fernández, Senior R&D Engineer in i2CAT

Computer Engineer in 2011 from the University Autònoma of Barcelona. Her research interests relate to Software Networks (SDN, NG-SDN, NFV, cloud, 5G/B5G/6G, automation) and in cybersecurity (privacy, identity). She has experience in different related European projects such as PALANTIR, GN4-3, Fed4FIRE+, FLAME or SHIELD. She leads the research and implementation of vertical enablers for use cases’ demonstrators, the infrastructures federation and the orchestration in the Open-VERSO project.
